Emotional
Rationale
Felicia Chong Khei Mink (born 22nd December 1996, Malaysia) currently studying Foundation in Design in The Design School at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus. I took the elective Introduction to Photography instead of Human Communication because I've been always wanted to learn more about photography as taking photograph is of my favorite thing to do.Morever, I've been thinking about taking photography class somewhere else before. I am so glad to know that taking Foundation in Design course would give me this opportunity to step into Photography class.  Even though I am still not a profesional yet after this 16 weeks of lessons, but I did learnt alot from Mr.Vinod, which is my photography lecturer. At least I've learnt most of the basic technique of taking a photograph.' Picture tells a thousand words.' ,this is my favorite quotation always when I talk about photography.Furthermore, I believe that I am not capturing photos, but moment.
About the photographs:
The theme I have chosen for this series is Emotional. This series of photos are about being alone all the time in different situation and different places. For instance, I choose on rainy days, at the corner, beside the hustle and bustle of city life and etc. .Throughout the few weeks and the continuous photographs, I have tried out some other different topics like Dogs and utensil . But I end up choosing this topic because I think it contains more perceptions inside compare to the others. Besides, it also looks more artistic and extraordinary compare to the other topics that I have tried.
To bring out a sense of emotional, I choose to work on rainy days so I could use umbrella during the shooting and the umbrella somehow brought out the feeling of lonely. Furthermore, I also asked the model who helped me during this shooting to wear all black in order to match out the theme of sadness. To bring out a sense of moodiness, I kept all my photographs underexposed. In order to do that, I adjusted my camera’s exposure or increase ISO to allow less light to be able to filter through the lens.
I took Photo 2,3,4 and 5 on rainy day.Due to the dark environment, I set my ISO to not too high and not too low as I want my photographs to be a bit underexposed to bring out the feel of sadness but at the same time I don't want it to be underexposed like some part of the photo get fully dark since it was already cloudy day.
About photograph 1 , I took it near Central Market, KL. It was a hot day and everywhere were full of crowds . I decided to take this shot under a bridge so there won't be obstacles.
